A source in the Lebanese Forces Party announced that the leaders of the main Christian parties in Lebanon and the opposition forces have reached an agreement on a new candidate for the Presidency.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place in Lebanon in early June.

According to Russia Today, Jihad Azour enjoys the support of the majority of Christian representatives and the opposition.

The source said, “19 MPs from the Lebanese Forces party, 15 from the Free Patriotic Movement, four from the Kataeb and the Union blocs, as well as at least six people from the reformist faction, are ready to vote for Azour’s jihad. Therefore, Azour will get 48 votes, but he needs the support of 65 out of 128 MPs to win.

According to the source, six Armenian MPs have not yet decided their position, and the centrist “Democratic Gathering” coalition (11 votes), which is headed by the Progressive Socialist Party, said it would vote for Azour “if there is no competing candidate.”
