A 6.4 magnitude earthquake strikes the northern Philippines

An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale struck Lausanne Island in the northern Philippines today, Tuesday.



The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said in a statement that the epicenter of the earthquake occurred 26 kilometers northwest of Dalupiri Island in Cagayan Province, at a depth of 10 kilometers, with no reports yet of any human or material losses recorded.



One of the strongest earthquakes to hit the Philippines was in July 1990, when more than 2,400 people died on the northern island of Luzon in a 7.8-magnitude earthquake./End
