Russian astronaut Oleg Kononenko became the first person in human history to spend a thousand days in space.
The Russian Space Agency (Roscosmos) noted that Kononenko, who is currently working on the International Space Station, set his record at 12:20 today, Moscow time.
This is the fifth space flight for the Russian astronaut, which began on September 15, 2023 aboard the Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft with Russian astronauts Nikolai Chub and American Laural O’Hara.
O’Hara returned to Earth on April 6 with Russian Oleg Novitsky and Belarusian Marina Vasilevskaya.
Kononenko is scheduled to return to Earth next September 23 with Nikolai Chub and American Tracy Dyson.
The total period that Kononenko spent in space will reach 1,110 days, at the end of his fifth space flight.’
It is noteworthy that Kononenko carried out his first space flight in 2008, the second in 2011-2012, the third in 2015, and the fourth in 2018-2019, and he has been leading the Russian astronaut team since 2016.
