AI and Energy Collaboration Explored at WPC Energy Congress

Tunis:A panel session titled "Energy and AI as Co-Enablers," held as part of the 25th WPC Energy Congress, discussed the role of energy in enabling artificial intelligence and the interdependent relationship between the two sectors. The session examined how AI technologies contribute to improving decision-making, operations, and efficiency in the energy sector.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the speakers highlighted that developing the energy and electricity system under Saudi Vision 2030 aims to meet demand and attract investment, including AI data centers that require reliable and competitively priced electricity. These efforts involve anticipating sector needs and connecting them with investors.

The panel emphasized integrating infrastructure, data, technologies, and human expertise, while leveraging Saudi Arabia's assets to develop solutions for global markets. They reviewed AI's role in enhancing load and demand forecasting accuracy, enabling early detection of grid faults, and supporting better planning and faster responses.

Discussions also included using smart meter data for consumption tracking, bill forecasting, appliance consumption distribution, and alerting users to unusual usage. AI's application in oil and gas exploration, especially drilling operations, was addressed, involving real-time data analysis and integration of engineering modeling with geological information. These technologies improve decision-making speed, accuracy, safety, and support risk assessment and investment decisions.
