Riyadh: The squares and roundabouts in Al-Khobar Governorate, Eastern Region, have been transformed into urban landmarks reflecting national identity, combining traffic functions with architectural designs inspired by the Kingdom's history and culture. They offer residents and visitors a visual experience that embodies the development journey and highlights authenticity and creativity in the urban landscape.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the prominent unification-themed roundabout welcomes visitors to Al-Khobar Corniche waterfront with a distinctive architectural design, featuring a structure engraved with the timeless declaration of faith, "There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah," in gold paint. It complements the Kingdom's emblem of two crossed swords and a palm tree, along with the surrounding green spaces, forming a symbol of belonging and pride in national identity.
At the southern Al-Khobar Corniche, the "Abeyah" Square evokes the horse of the late King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, which accompanied him during the journey to unify the Kingdom. Meanwhile, a nearby square combines a national character with a cosmic dimension, with its black ground designed to resemble the sky, scattered with constellations and stars in an artistic display inspired by outer space.
The Vision 2030 Roundabout on Al-Khobar Corniche stands out as one of the governorate's most prominent urban landmarks. It covers an area of 11,300 square meters, with a diameter of 120 meters, and comprises 84 units forming an image of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The project was implemented using modern technologies by Saudi engineers and supervisors.
Another roundabout also embodies the journey of the Kingdom's unification through an artistic work covering an area of more than 2,100 square meters. It consists of 10 mural panels documenting prominent milestones in the journey of Founding King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud. Each panel is adorned with his seal and signature.
This urban development reflects the progress witnessed by Al-Khobar Governorate in urban planning. The International Institute for Management Development (IMD) classified it among smart cities after it ranked 61st globally in 2025, reflecting its progress in sustainable urban development and the achievement of Saudi Vision 2030 objectives.
