Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani confirmed Iraq’s readiness to open a bridge of aid starting from Iraq and ending at the nearest crossing to the occupied territories.

Al-Sudani said, during his meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan within the framework of the Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference for Gaza: “Iraq will be the first to be affected by the expansion of the conflict and the introduction of the region into a serious security challenge.”

The meeting discussed the tragic conditions in Gaza, and the brutal violations, killing, starvation and displacement to which the Palestinian people are exposed by the occupation forces. Discussions also took place on ways to provide urgent aid and facilitate its arrival from Iraq via Jordan to the occupied territories, in a way that enables relief for the besieged people of Gaza.

The two sides discussed bilateral relations and strengthening joint cooperation, as the importance of exchanging visits and increasing coordination between the two
countries was stressed.

The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the Kingdom’s initiative to host this conference at this critical time, stressing Iraq’s readiness to open a bridge of aid starting from Iraq and ending at the nearest crossing to the occupied territories, amid great popular support for the Palestinian cause.

He explained that the deliberate closure of the crossings contributed to preventing aid from reaching our afflicted Palestinian people, pointing out that there is more than one program to help alleviate the tragic humanitarian situation, in light of the importance of investing coordination to facilitate the implementation of relief initiatives for our people in the sector.

For his part, the Jordanian monarch stressed the possibility of opening bridges across the Jordan River, and cooperation in transporting Iraqi aid to Gaza, via Jordanian aircraft, as well as cooperation in the field of transporting fuel, food supplies and humanitarian needs.
