Doha: The Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Reconstruction announced that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will chair the Executive Bureau for the upcoming session (2026-2027), in recognition of its leading role in developing the housing sector, strengthening joint Arab cooperation, and adopting policies and practices that contribute to improving housing systems across Arab countries.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the announcement was made during the council's 42nd session, held in Doha, Qatar. During the session, Minister of Municipalities and Housing Majed Al-Hogail reviewed the achievements of the housing sector in the Kingdom and highlighted its experience in building an integrated housing system that supports quality of life and residential stability.
In his opening remarks, Al-Hogail emphasized that the housing sector is receiving growing attention from the leaders of Arab countries, given its fundamental role in enhancing citizens' quality of life and supporting social and economic stability. He stressed the importance of unifying efforts and exchanging expertise among Arab states to address common challenges facing the housing sector.
He explained that in recent years, the Kingdom has worked to develop a comprehensive system of housing programs and initiatives focused on diversifying housing options, enabling citizens to own homes through sustainable solutions, strengthening partnerships with the private sector, and enhancing the efficiency of the real estate financing system, thereby achieving balance and sustainability in the real estate market.
Al-Hogail noted that these efforts contributed to increasing the homeownership rate to 65.4% by the end of 2024, surpassing the 2025 target, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to improve quality of life and establish integrated residential communities.
He further pointed out that the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, have constituted a key pillar in establishing and sustaining balance in the real estate sector, enhancing its ability to meet citizens' needs, expanding the developmental housing system, and supporting the most vulnerable groups.
