House Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Friday welcomed a delegation from the ‘Democratic Gathering’ bloc at the second presidency headquarters in Ain El-Tineh. The delegation included MPs Marwan Hamadeh, Hadi Abou Al-Hassan, Akram Chehayeb, Faisal Sayegh, and Bilal Abdullah.

Discussions reportedly centered on general conditions, political updates, and developmental and environmental affairs.

Following the meeting, MP Akram Chehayeb stated, ‘The issue we’ve addressed with the House Speaker concerns the decision of the Union of Municipalities of Beirut Southern Suburbs to suspend the implementation of the Cabinet decision to collect household solid waste from several regions, including Aley, Chouf, Baabda, and a significant part of Beirut. Given the current challenging political and dire financial circumstances facing municipalities, there are significant difficulties in finding alternatives. We requested from His Excellency the House Speaker to suspend the decision until a comprehensive meeting is held, potentially
on Monday, at the office of the Minister of Environment, involving all concerned parties to devise a sustainable and long-term plan.’

‘We hope to convene on Monday to continue discussing this matter, so the country doesn’t drown in waste, especially amidst the ongoing internal Lebanese political, economic, and social situation, alongside the devastating attacks on southern Lebanon,’ he added.

On another note, Berri extended Christmas greetings via phone to His Holiness Aram I Keshishian, the Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia for the Armenian Orthodox.
