US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, confirmed during his talks in Beijing with his Chinese counterpart, Chen Gang, that Washington will continue to protect its interests and values.

“The Secretary of State made it clear that the United States will always defend the interests and values of the American people, and work with its allies and partners to develop our worldview,” the State Department said in a statement.

Blinken also called on the Chinese Foreign Minister to visit Washington to “continue the talks.”

China Central Television reported Today, Sunday, Blinken’s arrival in Beijing, in the first visit by a US Secretary of State to China in five years.

This visit comes in light of a significant deterioration in relations between Beijing and Washington due to a number of issues, including Taiwan and the shooting down of a Chinese balloon over the United States, as well as the ongoing disputes over trade and technology.
