Governor of the Eastern Region Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz today inaugurated the international forum Powering the Future Toward Net Zero, organized by the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) in collaboration with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). The two-day event was attended by Deputy Governor of the Eastern Region Prince Saud bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, along with prominent global energy leaders and officials. Prince Saud emphasized that the government of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, with the support and oversight of HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, is strongly committed to the electrical interconnection project. He highlighted that less than a year ago, the Gulf electrical interconnection project with Iraq was inaugurated, adding that the participation of leading global energy experts and specialized regional organizations in this forum contributes to finding effective sol utions for energy supply challenges and environmental pollution. He remarked, 'Everyone views net zero as a fundamental goal, and achieving this requires joint efforts to advance electrical systems across all countries, incorporate modern technologies, boost investments in renewable energy sources, and enhance energy consumption efficiency.' GCCIA Chairman Eng. Mohsin Al-Hadhrami noted that the forum addresses critical issues impacting the future of the region and the world. He pointed out that the challenges currently facing the energy sector necessitate concerted strategic efforts to develop innovative and sustainable solutions that will benefit the future of the energy sector and broader developmental progress.
