FCDO Report reflects Bahrain’s human rights strides, NIHR

The National Institution of Human Rights (NIHR) has welcomed the report which was issued by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) which removed Bahrain from the list of Human Rights Priority Countries, recognizing the Kingdom’s progressive reform strides over the past years.

It attributed the achievement to Bahrain’s full commitment to all international covenants and laws related to human rights, supported by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with the support and follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The institution indicated that the FCDO’s report -which praised the participation of the Bahraini citizens in the decision-making process through the Shura and Representatives councils, the active participation of women in the national march, the kingdom’s global humanitarian efforts and initiatives in spreading the principles and concepts of tolerance, peace, love and human coexistence among peoples, as well as building bridges of communication and dialogue among various religions, cultures and civilisations – reflected the tangible reality of the progress of human rights

On behalf of the the Council of Commissioners members and General Secretariat, NIHR Chairman Ali Ahmed Al Derazi extended congratulations to HM the King on this landmark achievement.

He also paid tribute to HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister for appreciating the role of NIHR Council of Commissioners and its role in promoting human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Al Derazi affirmed that the institution will continue to its mandate, confirmed by the law, to translate the royal directives for the promotion and protection of human rights, in light of Bahrain’s commitment to all international covenants and laws related to it to improve the human rights system with transparency and independence.
