A former official in the British Ministry of Defense announced that ‘the British Armed Forces cannot properly defend British territory, and they can hardly carry out peacekeeping and humanitarian relief operations, and evacuate civilians from war zones.’

Rob Johnson, who recently resigned as director of the Ministry of Defense’s Evaluation and Challenge Office, said the British military was operating “minimally” which only allowed it to begin peacekeeping and humanitarian relief operations, evacuate civilians from war zones, and some counter-subversion activities. Our defenses are very weak, and we are not prepared to fight and win in an armed conflict of any size,’ he added, adding that ‘in any large-scale operation, ammunition will quickly run out,’ according to the British newspaper ‘Financial Times.’

He explained, “British air defenses are ‘insufficient’ to stop long-range missile attacks, and the Royal Navy lacks enough ships to patrol the North Atlantic Ocean to monitor and deter Russian submarine act
ivity, and the Royal Air Force needs twice the number of combat aircraft it possesses now”.

He stressed that he ‘decided to issue a public warning because he is ‘extremely concerned’ about the additional investments that the British army needs, especially to confront the Russian threat,’ as he put it.

It is noteworthy that the recent warnings issued by current or recently retired senior defense officials in the United Kingdom said: ‘The British army needs to modernize in light of the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, and the possibility of a conflict in the Indo-Pacific region.
