GCA President, World Bank Official Discuss Support for SAIs Independence

General Court of Audit (GCA) President and International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI)-Donor Steering Committee (IDSC) Co-Chair Dr. Hussam Alangari held a meeting here with World Bank’s Senior Managing Director Axel van Trotsenburg on strengthening cooperation and increasing the bank’s role in supporting the independence of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs).

Discussions focused on IDSC’s mission, INTOSAI priorities, and donor objectives. Participants emphasized the importance of supporting SAIs to develop their capacities and gain independence, as reflected in the World Bank’s SAI Independence Index. The meeting also reviewed the findings of the INTOSAI Development Initiative’s (IDI) global assessment of SAIs.

Alangari highlighted the significant achievements resulting from INTOSAI’s collaboration with donors, facilitated by IDSC under the leadership of the GCA and the World Bank. He said IDSC has played a pivotal role in empowering SAIs and improving their performance, through knowle
dge sharing and adherence to best international practices, ultimately contributing to increasing accountability in public financial management.

The meeting was attended by US Comptroller General, head of the US Government Accountability Office and IDSC Vice Chairman Gene L. Dodaro.
