GCC Ministerial Council Holds 149th Session

Riyadh, The Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for the Arab States held its 149th session, at the headquarters of GCC Secretariat General here today, under chairmanship of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Chairman of the current session of the GCC Ministerial Council , Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, and in the participation of Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs; Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates Khalifa Shaheen Almarar; Omani Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al-busaidi; Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikh; Kuwaiti Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, and the GCC Secretary-General Dr. Naif Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf.

The GCC Ministerial Council issued a statement congratulating the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the success of this year’s Hajj season, expressing its appreciation for the great efforts provided by the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and the Saudi people in serving pilgrims, Umrah performers and visitors in the holy sites.

The council also hailed the distinguished organization in a safe healthy environment with no epidemics, in light of abiding by the requirements of global health standards and measures.

The GCC Ministerial Council condemned the escalation being practiced by Iran-backed Houthi militia via launching missiles and drones towards the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including the terrorist attacks on Abha International Airport on August 30 and 31, 2021, and the residential districts in Dammam on September 4, 2021, which target civilians and civilian facilities, labelling this escalation as a flagrant violation of international norms and laws.

The Council affirmed that the continuation of these terrorist attacks by Houthi militia reflects its blatant defiance of the international community and international laws and norms as well as its rejection of all efforts aimed at bringing peace to Yemen, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities and take a decisive stance towards the Houthi militia to stop these repeated terrorist acts.

The Council stressed the GCC solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in addressing these terrorist threats as well as its support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its security, stability, territorial integrity and capabilities, as well as its citizens and residents, hailing the efficiency of the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces and the Coalition Forces to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen in intercepting and destroying terrorist Houthi missiles and drones.
