Riyadh: GCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi welcomed Lebanese Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam's announcement of the cabinet's decision to confine all weapons possession to the authority of the state throughout Lebanon. The secretary-general emphasized that the decision represents an important step toward strengthening the sovereignty of the Lebanese state, consolidating stability and security for the brotherly Lebanese people, and enhancing the effectiveness of its institutions.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the decision is expected to significantly boost the confidence of the international community and multilateral partners in Lebanon. It is also seen as a move that will create a more attractive environment for investment, including from the private sector. Albudaiwi highlighted that progress in this direction, along with necessary reforms, is crucial for the Lebanese Republic.
Albudaiwi reiterated the GCC's steadfast stance toward the Lebanese Republic, underscoring its continued support for Lebanon's sovereignty, security, and stability. He also affirmed the GCC's commitment to the reform process and the building of the Lebanese state, which are seen as essential for the country's long-term development and prosperity.
