GCC Secretary General Welcomes UN Yemen Envoy Announcement on Government-Houthis Agreement

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi welcomed the announcement issued by the United Nations secretary-general’s special envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, on Tuesday regarding the agreement between the Yemeni government and the Houthis on procedures to de-escalate the situation with regard to the Yemeni banking sector and airlines.

Albudaiwi expressed the GCC’s support for all regional and international efforts and the efforts led by the UN special envoy to Yemen aimed at achieving peace and security in Yemen.

He also emphasized that the issuance of this announcement underscores the importance the international community attaches to the Yemeni crisis, expressing his hope that this agreement would help create an atmosphere for the Yemeni parties to start the political process under the auspices of the United Nations to reach a comprehensive political solution that achieves security and stability in Yemen.

He also reiterated the GCC’s continued support and full solidarity wit
h Yemen, its government, and its brotherly people, and its keenness to encourage all efforts to de-escalate and maintain stability in order to reach the desired peace.
