Iraq and Russia sign a memorandum of cooperation in the judicial field

Baghdad, The President of the Federal Supreme Court, Judge Jassim Muhammad Abboud, signed Today, Monday, a memorandum of joint cooperation with the President of the Russian Constitutional Court, Valery Zorkin.

The Federal Court said in a statement: ‘At the beginning of his official visit to the Russian Federation in the city of Saint Petersburg, Judge Jassim Muhammad Abboud met with the President of the Russian Constitutional Court, Valery Zorkin, and during the meeting, relations between the two countries and ways to develop them were reviewed,’ noting that ‘the most important decisions, which were issued by the Federal Supreme Court were presented and its role in consolidating correct democratic principles and ensuring the implementation of the Constitution.’

It stated, ‘It was emphasized that the Federal Supreme Court is keen to establish bilateral relations with international constitutional courts to exchange legal expertise in the field of constitutional judiciary to develop it and benefit from the acc
umulated experiences of the constitutional courts in a way that contributes to the correct democratic construction and the preservation of public and private rights and freedoms,’ noting that ‘the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and stressed the importance of strengthening them to benefit from Russian expertise in developing the work of the Iraqi constitutional judiciary.

In turn, the President of the Russian Constitutional Court welcomed the visit of the President of the Federal Supreme Court and his accompanying delegation, stressing ‘his country’s keenness to stand with Iraq and cooperate in many fields to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples.’
