Islamic Affairs Ministry Introduces Multilingual 3D Virtual Reality Application for Teaching Hajj, Umrah Rituals

General

Makkah: As part of its efforts to serve pilgrims, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance has introduced a multilingual 3D virtual reality application to teach Hajj and Umrah rituals. This initiative coincides with the influx of pilgrims arriving in the Kingdom to perform Hajj and aims to train users on correctly performing Hajj and Umrah rituals. It seeks to minimize common mistakes made during Hajj by using 3D models and virtual reality technology, which is in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which promotes the use of technology in providing services to pilgrims.

The application offers virtual tours that simulate the real environment of the Grand Mosque and the holy sites such as Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah. The use of this application provides an educational environment replicating the geographical and temporal reality of performing these rituals, thus helping to overcome obstacles that pilgrims and Umrah performers might face. Various versions of the application are available to meet th
e needs of pilgrims from different nationalities and language backgrounds.

The multilingual and multi-environment virtual reality application for teaching Hajj and Umrah has won several national and regional awards due to its contribution to providing a virtual environment that mirrors the geographical reality and the chronological order of Hajj and Umrah rituals and to overcoming obstacles that pilgrims and Umrah performers might face.
