Riyadh: King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH) has entered into an agreement with Getinge Regional Headquarter to initiate a specialized training program focusing on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). This advanced life support technology program, delivered through the Heart Center of Excellence, aims to enhance applied medical education and equip healthcare professionals with skills to utilize ECMO technologies aligned with international clinical and technical standards.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the agreement was formalized at KFSH in Riyadh, with the presence of Group Chief Executive Officer of KFSH Dr. Majid bin Ibrahim Alfayyadh, Swedish Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Petra Menander, and senior officials from both parties.

The agreement outlines that the program will conduct four annual courses targeting participants from both Saudi Arabia and overseas. It includes a dedicated demonstration facility designed to showcase state-of-the-art ECMO technologies and medical equipment. Participants who successfully complete the program will earn accredited Continuing Medical Education (CME) hours.

The collaboration leverages KFSH's clinical expertise and Getinge's technical proficiency to enhance specialized training in cardiopulmonary support. It aims to facilitate knowledge exchange and improve participants' capabilities in advanced life-support technologies.

KFSH has been recognized for its significant achievements, being ranked first in the Middle East and Africa and 12th globally among the world's top 250 academic medical centers for 2026. It has also been acknowledged as the most valuable healthcare brand in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East for 2026 by Brand Finance and featured in Newsweek's 2026 lists of the World's Best Hospitals, World's Best Smart Hospitals, and World's Best Specialized Hospitals.
