KFSHRC Inaugurates Middle East’s First Smart Neuroscience Ward

Riyadh: King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC) has opened the Middle East's first Smart Neuroscience Ward, a cutting-edge facility designed to integrate advanced technologies with patient-centric care, marking a significant step forward in neurological healthcare in the region.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the newly inaugurated ward is equipped with specialized electromagnetic shielding to eliminate external interference, ensuring that brain monitoring systems provide accurate neural readings. This infrastructure is expected to improve diagnostic reliability and enable earlier medical interventions, enhancing patient outcomes.

Central to the ward is the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, featuring 16 state-of-the-art single-patient rooms. These rooms are equipped with high-precision EEG systems and intelligent alert networks designed to detect seizures before they are clinically evident, allowing medical teams to intervene promptly. This capability is particularly vital for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy, as it aids in identifying seizure sources and determining effective treatment strategies.

The Smart Neuroscience Ward is also built to accommodate a wide range of patients, including those recovering from complex neurosurgical procedures, individuals with movement disorders, and patients with chronic neurological diseases requiring ongoing monitoring.

The facility incorporates intelligent analytics and secure telemedicine integration, facilitating real-time collaboration among specialists across KFSHRC's network, including its Madinah campus. Additionally, the ward features advanced smart cameras with human detection, motion tracking, and day-and-night vision to ensure continuous observation while upholding patient privacy and dignity.

This innovation is the result of collaboration among multidisciplinary teams, including clinicians, engineers, IT experts, and safety and facilities professionals, aligning with KFSHRC's vision to redefine healthcare delivery in the region.

KFSHRC's achievements have gained international recognition, being ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa and 15th globally among the top 250 Academic Medical Centres in 2025. It was also named the most valuable healthcare brand in the Middle East by Brand Finance in 2024, and included in Newsweek's list of the World's Best Smart Hospitals 2025.
