The Riyadh Municipality continues to make significant progress in the construction phases of the King Abdullah International Gardens (KAIG) project, considered one of the largest covered gardens in the world. The project represents an architectural icon with a distinctive character and marks a unique shift in tourism and entertainment.
The completion rate of the iconic two-interlocking-crescent building has exceeded 70%, with its roof covered in ETFE, a high-quality, transparent material that allows light penetration and serves as a durable, cost-effective alternative. Additionally, the upper windows of the enclosed gardens have been installed, and the stone cladding for the crescents and expansion joints to cover the metal structure has been completed. The progress rate of the rock formations has reached 35%, the bird garden 70%, and the energy building 60%.
The gardens host over 700,000 trees and shrubs, distributed among seven botanical gardens within the Twin Crescents, including the Pilocene Garden, t
he Garden of Choices, the Carboniferous Garden, the Cenozoic Garden, the Devonian Garden, the Cretaceous Garden, and the Jurassic Garden. Additionally, there are eight outdoor botanical gardens, including the Wadi Garden and the Water Gardens.
KAIG spans over two million square meters. The Riyadh Municipality aims to make it a premier entertainment destination with exemplary standards, offering a unique experience and establishing a cultural beacon that fosters an attractive and sustainable environment, promoting coexistence with nature and its development within a thriving and sustainable community.
