Libya strongly condemned the burning of a copy of the Holy Qur’an by an extremist in front of its embassy in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, expressing its categorical rejection of these practices.

In a statement issued today, the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the Danish authorities politically responsible for harming relations between the two countries, and allowing them to provoke the Libyan people and all Muslims around the world by continuing to ignore hate crimes and incitement carried out by extremists with the aim of insulting the Islamic religion and Muslims, expressing its categorical rejection of these practices.

It stressed that “Libya cannot accept allegations that this cowardly act is among expressing opinion,” warning against allowing once again hostile and provocative activities against the feelings and sanctities of Muslims around the world in front of its embassy in Copenhagen.

The Libyan Foreign Ministry said, “The repetition of allowing these crimes will prompt us to reconsider the feasibility of continuing diplomatic relations and cooperation with Denmark.”

The Danish and Swedish authorities have allowed, in recent months, a number of extremists to burn copies of the Noble Qur’an, amid widespread Arab and Islamic condemnations, which have reached the point of threatening to sever diplomatic relations with these two countries
