Makkah: The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) branch in Makkah Region is boosting its operational readiness for the upcoming Hajj season with a comprehensive plan that prioritizes proactive organization, field preparedness, and efficient services for pilgrims.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the branch has implemented a stringent operational plan that upgrades slaughterhouses and public markets, expanding logistical support and deploying qualified national personnel along with technical and field support vehicles. All activities strictly adhere to technical and health requirements to ensure smooth operations and swift responses during the peak period.
In the livestock market sector, preparations are complete with 817 permanent pens and 207 mobile and temporary pens distributed across markets south of Makkah. These pens have capacities ranging from 25 to 100 heads each, facilitating smooth livestock flow within an organized, biosecure environment.
For the food supply, the branch has finalized market preparations in the holy capital. Four dedicated exhibition halls for vegetables and fruits, dates, fish, and poultry showcase the infrastructure's full readiness to meet the food needs of pilgrims and Makkah residents.
The MEWA Makkah branch also manages catering for all field personnel through a precise distribution system that prioritizes quality and food safety. This support ensures operational teams can perform continuously around the clock.
Regarding safety, supervisory teams conduct daily inspections of sites and facilities to verify investor and personnel compliance with regulatory procedures. These inspections are overseen by a specialized department dedicated to enforcing safety and security standards, ensuring the protection of lives and facilities without leniency.
