The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has announced that the Kingdom’s watermelon production has reached remarkable levels, with a self-sufficiency rate exceeding 99%.

According to the ministry’s recent Harvest Season campaign report, Saudi Arabia produces 605,000 tons of watermelons annually, cultivated on over 24,000 hectares of farmland throughout the country’s regions.

The Makkah region emerged as the top producer, contributing over 442,000 tons of the national watermelon yield. Riyadh and the Eastern Region followed as the next highest-producing areas.

The Harvest Season campaign promotes public awareness and understanding of the diverse range of fruits grown locally throughout the year. The initiative also seeks to improve the marketing and distribution of domestic produce, ultimately supporting the Kingdom’s farmers and increasing their financial returns.
