Abuja: Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa has launched the MWL's initiative for Social Peace in West Africa. The initiative took shape through the MWL's international conference, 'Diversity and Social Peace: A Partnership for a Promising Future,' held in Nigeria's capital, Abuja, under the patronage of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It featured the participation of Islamic and Christian religious leaders, as well as ministers, parliamentarians, and civil society leaders.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the conference saw the adoption of the 'Abuja Declaration,' unanimously endorsed by religious leaders representing all religions in the region. The declaration includes a joint action plan bringing together government institutions, alongside the solidarity of Muslim and Christian religious leaders and civil society organizations.

The declaration approved expanding work on the scientific, training, and media programs related to the Charter of Makkah to address challenges to peace, coexistence, and social stability. It particularly emphasized strengthening partnerships in conflict prevention and protecting the national fabric in all its religious and ethnic diversity.

It further includes the establishment of a coordinating body for religious and civil leaders and institutions in West Africa to follow up on the implementation of the action plan's commitments and coordinate programs and initiatives arising from it, ensuring effective implementation, achievement of its objectives, and accurate periodic assessment.

The initiative is based on pillars aimed at addressing the root causes of intellectual and social problems, including extremist ideologies, while ensuring commitment, partnership, and sustainability through binding agreements among all relevant parties.
