MWL Secretary General Inaugurates Southeast Asian Scholars Council

Makkah: Secretary-General of the Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa has inaugurated the “Council of Southeast Asian Scholars” in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar bin Ibrahim, and in the presence of senior scholars and muftis from ASEAN countries.

The ASEAN Scholars Council marks the inception of the first comprehensive Islamic council in the region, comprising senior muftis and scholars from Southeast Asian countries. It also stands as the inaugural among the “regional scholarly councils” established worldwide by the MWL.

The establishment of the council follows the recommendations of the “Southeast Asian Scholars Conference,” convened in Kuala Lumpur on June 30, 2022, and is endorsed by the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
