General

Mina: An Iraqi woman who suffered a stroke that made her lose the ability to speak and right hemiplegia underwent urgent surgery to have the blood clot that caused it removed at the King Abdullah Medical City (KAMC) at Makkah Medical Complex.

The Makkah Medical Complex had been informed about the emergency via the hotline service; the Red Crescent immediately transferred the patient to KAMC where a medical team that included an emergency doctor, a neurologist, and a radiologist examined her. The CT scan revealed thrombosis in the artery feeding the left lobe of the brain, which required urgent intervention.

The patient was transferred to the catheterization suite at the radiology department, and the clot was successfully removed using neurointerventional radiology; the blood supply to the brain was restored without any significant complications.
