Jeddah: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned the illegal actions of Israeli occupation authorities aimed at undermining the status and role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). These actions include attempts to classify UNRWA as a “terrorist organization” and to strip its employees of their immunities and privileges, coinciding with escalating direct attacks on the agency’s facilities, resulting in the martyrdom of 192 of its staff members. The OIC considers these actions part of ongoing serious Israeli violations of the United Nations Charter, the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, the Fourth Geneva Convention, and relevant UN resolutions.

The OIC reiterated the mandate granted to UNRWA by the United Nations and stressed the necessity of continuing its role and responsibilities, which are of utmost importance to its political, humanitarian, and relief work. UNRWA’s work is seen as a stabilizing factor in
the region and a testament to the collective international commitment to the rights of Palestinian refugees, keeping their cause alive in the collective memory and on the international community’s agenda.

The organization also called on the international community to increase support for UNRWA to ensure its ability to continue providing essential services to Palestinian refugees, especially in light of the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
