Jeddah: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has welcomed the decision of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to recognize the State of Palestine, considering that this important step is consistent with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions. The OIC said that the decision would contribute to enabling the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate rights, including the right of return, self-determination, and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine on the 1967 borders with east Jerusalem as its capital.

The OIC renewed its call on all countries around the world that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to take the initiative to declare their recognition as soon as possible, in support of international efforts aimed at ending the Israeli occupation. It stressed that this would achieve peace and stability in the region based on the vision of the two-state solution and relevant resolutions of international legitimacy.
