Roads Authority Highlights Environmental Sustainability Initiatives in Road Sector

Riyadh: The Roads General Authority is making strides in adopting environmental technologies and initiatives aimed at enhancing sustainability within the road sector. This move aligns with the objectives set forth in the road sector program, focusing on innovation and environmental protection to create more efficient infrastructure.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the Saudi Road Code, unveiled on World Environment Day, stresses the importance of environmental considerations. It aims to minimize the impact of road projects on natural resources by instituting requirements and specifications for assessing, mitigating, and monitoring environmental impacts throughout a project's lifecycle.

In its pursuit of innovation, the authority conducted a study that successfully demonstrated the feasibility of reusing aggregates from construction waste and old concrete in asphalt mixtures and granular layers. This initiative not only aids in waste reduction but also decreases dependency on raw materials.

Additionally, the authority has broadened the application of recycled rubber from used tires in asphalt mixtures. This initiative plays a significant role in curbing pollution and promoting sustainability within the road sector.
