Roads General Authority Trials AI Rockfall Detection During Hajj

General

Riyadh: In the presence of the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Saleh Al-Jasser, a smart system for monitoring rockfalls was tested in Aqabat Al-Hada, Taif. The system utilizes six cameras equipped with artificial intelligence to detect any rock movement in the surrounding areas and sends immediate signals to close the road within 60 seconds. This step is part of the Roads General Authority’s efforts to enhance road safety, especially for pilgrims, by employing the latest technologies.

The authority aims to raise the quality of roads in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and reduce fatalities to fewer than 5 cases per 100,000 people by 2030.
