Saudi Arabia, 26 Participating Countries in AI Seoul Summit Stress Importance of Enhancing Cooperation on AI Safety

Seoul, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, along with 26 other countries participating in the AI Seoul Summit organized by the Republic of Korea and the United Kingdom on May 21 and 22, stressed the importance of enhancing international cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) safety, adhering to collaboration in AI safety tests and assessment guidelines, and supporting innovation, inclusion, and future reports on AI risks.

The Kingdom was represented at the summit by Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) President Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi.

The statement issued at the conclusion of the summit highlighted that the participating countries discussed several AI-related topics, such as supporting innovation and inclusion in AI. Participants also underscored the benefits of AI for the public sector and commitment to providing an environment that enhances easy access to AI-related resources for small- and medium-sized enterprises, startups, and academia.

The statement said that the participating countries welc
omed the potential of AI to make significant progress in addressing major global challenges such as climate change, global health, and food and energy security. It also referred to these countries’ commitment to addressing the significant risks associated with AI and determining the levels of these risks to develop and spread leading AI technologies.
