Saudi Arabia Implements Over 300 Reforms in Accounting and Auditing Sector

Saudi arabia: Saudi Arabia's accounting and auditing sector underwent more than 300 substantive, legal, procedural, and consequential reforms between 2016 and 2026, according to the Saudi Organization for Chartered and Professional Accountants (SOCPA). According to Saudi Press Agency, the reforms were introduced to align with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, strengthen the business environment, enhance the reliability of financial reporting, and support investment. A recent report highlights that the reforms were spread across four main tracks: 128 substantive reforms, 16 legal reforms, 71 procedural reforms, and 86 consequential reforms. SOCPA stated that the reforms helped establish a clearer and more consistent framework for professional practice, enhancing the relevance of disclosures, the clarity of presentation, the reliability of measurement, and the quality of financial reporting. The reforms also covered electronic services and procedures related to the issuance and renewal of licenses, as wel l as the laws, regulations, and regulatory rules governing the profession and its oversight. SOCPA CEO Dr. Ahmed bin Abdullah Al-Meghames emphasized that reliable financial information is a fundamental pillar supporting markets, investment, financing, and decision-making.
