Saudi Medical Team Saves Turkish Woman’s Life During Hajj

General

Makkah: The Ministry of Health announced the successful intervention by a medical team from the Makkah Health Cluster in saving the life of a 73-year-old Turkish woman experiencing a severe heart attack.

The pilgrim suffered from fatigue, shortness of breath, dizziness, and an irregular heartbeat. Diagnosed with a blockage in her coronary arteries and a malfunctioning mitral valve, she was transferred from Al-Noor Hospital to the Heart Center at King Abdullah Medical City. The medical team performed a series of complex procedures. They first used cardiac catheterization to widen the blocked coronary arteries and implant drug stents. Once her condition partially stabilized, the team employed a minimally invasive technique-a mitral valve clip-to address the faulty valve. This innovative approach avoids the need for open-heart surgery.

The Ministry of Health highlighted that this specialized mitral valve clip procedure was performed on 13 patients during the previous Hajj season. This exemplifies the Kingdom’s
commitment to providing advanced medical care to pilgrims, ensuring they can perform their Hajj rituals with comfort and safety.
