Shrimp Fishing Season Begins in Jazan

General

The shrimp fishing season officially opened in the Red Sea off the coast of Jazan on September 1, 2024. The season will last for seven months, concluding at the end of March next year.

Some 120 fishing vessels took to the sea on the first day, utilizing sustainable fishing methods to preserve the shrimp population. The season is a vital economic driver for the region, boosting commercial activity and making shrimp widely available as supply and competition grow.

The Fisheries Research Center in Jazan has provided complete support to fishermen, including facilitating the issuance of fishing licenses, advising on sustainable fishing practices, and coordinating with the National Company for Agricultural Services for seasonal shrimp fishing permits.

Jazan’s annual shrimp production is estimated at around 800 tons, while aquaculture companies contribute over 3,000 tons.
