Mogadishu: Somali army and security forces have successfully killed approximately 40 militants from the Al-Shabaab terrorist movement, which is linked to the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization, during a joint military operation in the central region of the country.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Somali military sources revealed that the operation targeted members of the movement in the "El Hariri" area of the Hiraan region. The operation resulted in the elimination of about 40 militants, including two prominent leaders of the group.

The Somali army has reported notable progress recently, achieving significant victories in its long-standing battle against the Al-Shabaab movement. The army has also completed its control over the strategic "Middle Shabelle" region.
