SPDRY Launches Third Phase of Aden International Airport Upgrade

Aden: The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction for Yemen (SPDRY) launched the third phase of the development and capacity enhancement of Aden International Airport, which includes the rehabilitation of the main runway and the upgrading and modernization of the airport's navigation and communications systems.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the project aims to improve passenger experience and the quality of services provided, enhance the readiness of transport and logistics infrastructure, strengthen Aden's position as a key urban and economic hub, and improve Yemen's connectivity with the region and the world.

The development seeks to enable international and domestic air carriers to operate flights to and from the airport, support economic and commercial activity, and advance air transport services in a manner that positively contributes to strengthening economic and social ties in Yemen.

The airport upgrade will also improve air traffic movement, enhance the safety, organization, and integration of flight operations in line with international airport requirements, and create direct and indirect employment opportunities.

SPDRY has implemented a range of development projects and initiatives in support of the transport sector, including the rehabilitation of airports, expansion of port capacities, improvement of key road networks, and enhancement of border crossing performance. These efforts have contributed to improving basic services for the Yemeni people. The program's development projects and initiatives align with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by upgrading infrastructure, supporting economic activity, strengthening social connectivity, and facilitating travel and access to and from Yemen by land, sea, and air.
