Tehran Intends To Construct A Highway Linking Two Iranian Provinces With Najaf

The coordinating assistant to the Iranian governor of Ilam, Saeed Hajabri, announced today, Friday, Iran’s intention to construct a road linking two Iranian governorates with Najaf governorate.

Hajabri explained in a coordination meeting between the directors of the construction sector in Ilam province and the advisor for studies in Zal-Mormori-Dehlran-Chilat-Najaf bridge road project, according to the Iranian Fars News Agency that “The distance between Zal Bridge and Chilat is 126 kilometers, and it will be a highway, and after entering Iraqi territory, it will be linked to the highway that connects Basra to Najaf.”

Hajabri stressed that “the purpose of extending this road is to link the Iranian highway network with the transportation network in Iraq and the city of Najaf, and the directors of the relevant executive agencies must answer the questions and inquiries raised by the consultant of this important and influential project on the specified date in order to see the implementation of this project.”

He stated that “reducing fuel consumption, traffic accidents and the damages resulting from them is one of the benefits of constructing roads with required international standards.”

He continued, “The Iranian province of Ilam is considered the main passage for the Arbaeen pilgrims to Iraq, because it is close to the holy shrines and the security available on the road extending from them into Iraqi territory.”
