Jazan: With the arrival of fall, the valleys of Jazan return to their agricultural cycle, driven by traditional farming methods and knowledge passed down through generations. This deep understanding connects rainfall, seasons, and farming stages, recording the entire process from rain signs to the final harvest.
According to Saudi Press Agency, farmers rely on these established practices to interpret cloud movement, soil changes, and growth signs. Researcher Mohammed Abu Aqeel, who specializes in Jazan's history, notes that in the past, farmers would observe eastern cloud formations over the mountains to determine the start of the season. Cloud appearance signaled the beginning of the annual cycle, prompting preparation for the floods that would moisten the land for plowing and planting corn.
During the growth phase, farmers would pick corn stalks to roast the green kernels over embers, which were then ground to make "Khudeir," a popular local dish.
