Hajj Season Sees Record Spike in 5G Usage and Data Traffic

Makkah: STC Group's network recorded a significant increase in the usage of communication services and data traffic during the first day of Eid al-Adha. This reflects the technical readiness and success of proactive measures, especially advanced artificial intelligence solutions to enhance network efficiency within the holy sites.

According to Saudi Press Agency, operational indicators reveal that Muzdalifah recorded the highest busy hour in its history, with increases in some peak hours of more than 64% in data volume and more than 129% in advanced fifth-generation (5G) usage compared to the same hour last year, with a better user experience index than last year by 25%, during the group gatherings.

In Mina, some busy hours recorded numbers exceeding 30% of their counterparts last year, while in the Grand Mosque, the network recorded flexibility in service experience indicators.

STC Group has increased the readiness of its infrastructure in the holy sites before the start of this year's Hajj season, by operating 259 sites that support the advanced fifth-generation network, and upgrading more than 83 sites to the fourth-generation network. Additionally, 998 Wi-Fi points were provided and distributed in vital areas, contributing to enhanced coverage and improved connection speed, thanks to artificial intelligence technologies that ensured the efficient and reliable operation of the network.
