Jeddah: The open-ended Executive Committee at the level of permanent representatives of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held an extraordinary meeting today at the organization's General Secretariat headquarters in Jeddah to review developments in the Federal Republic of Somalia, following Israel's move to recognize the so-called 'Somaliland' region as an independent state.

According to Saudi Press Agency, in remarks delivered to the meeting on his behalf by Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Youssef bin Mohammed Al-Dubaie, OIC Secretary-General Hussein Ibrahim Taha stressed that the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia are fundamental principles that are not subject to compromise.

The General Secretariat reaffirmed its full and steadfast support for Somalia and its inalienable right to preserve its sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity. It renewed its firm rejection of any attempts to impose a new fait accompli that could undermine regional stability, threaten security in the Horn of Africa, and open the door to further conflicts and tensions that serve neither the interests of the region's peoples nor international peace and security.
