Salmaniya Medical Complex: surgeries increased by 69 percent

Surgeries performed at the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) have increased by by 69 percent compared to previous years.

According to updated SMC statistics, 1913 surgeries were performed during the month of May, as part of the government hospitals’ strategies to reduce the waiting lists.

These include 32 dental and maxillofacial surgeries, 389 general surgeries, 309 orthopedic surgeries, 43 vascular surgeries, 24 neurosurgery operations, 198 ENT surgeries, 185 obstetrics and gynecology surgeries, 141 urology surgeries, 107 children surgeries.

SMC doctors have also performed 61 burn and plastic surgeries, 2 kidney transplant surgeries, 276 laparoscopic procedures, 16 anesthesia procedures, and 130 eye surgeries, said Government Hospitals CEO. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al-Ansari.

He praised the efforts of the SMC medical efforts, which contributed to treating a big number of patients, indicating that work is continuing to reschedule appointments.

In a statement today, he urged patients to adhere to the appointments set for them to ensure their access to health services In time and their plans are not affected.

He indicated that the working hours of the SMC medical staff have been extended from 7 am to 7 pm, spanning seven days weekly, up from 5 days previously.

The Governmental Hospitals also launched a project to increase the number of operating theatres from 13 rooms to 17, which will contribute to increasing work by 33% to serve more than 13 medical specialties and reduce patients’ waiting times for operations.
