Cannes: Umm Al-Qura University is advancing the cultural and civilizational identity of the holy capital through its "Cultural Front" initiative, an integrated cognitive and interactive experience documenting Makkah's history and heritage while highlighting the university's standing as one of the Kingdom's oldest higher education institutions.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the Cultural Front comprises 10 specialized exhibitions housing rare archaeological artifacts-including monuments, coins, jewelry, and antiques-that reflect the region's cultural heritage across different historical periods. It also showcases the university's scientific and research achievements across various fields.
The front holds more than 5,600 archaeological pieces and over 21,000 original and photographed manuscripts, alongside archaeological engravings and sculptures, some dating back approximately 1,200 years.
Since its launch in December 2025, the Cultural Front has welcomed nearly 10,000 visitors from more than 25 countries. During the Hajj season of 1447H, it offers a modern interactive experience incorporating virtual reality technology to enrich pilgrims' engagement with historical and heritage sites in Makkah and Madinah.
The initiative reflects Umm Al-Qura University's enduring role in serving pilgrims and promoting Makkah's civilizational heritage through modern, innovative methods.
