Northern Borders Region Home to Aromatic Ducrosia Anethifolia

Northern Borders Region: Northern Borders Region is home to a diverse range of native plants that reflect its rich ecology despite the region's harsh climate, with one of the most notable species being the aromatic herb known locally as 'Al-Haza,' scientifically classified as Ducrosia anethifolia and belonging to the Apiaceae family.

According to Saudi Press Agency, specialists have described the plant as a small, flowering herb with a fragrant aroma, growing from its base with multiple stems and reaching a height of approximately 35 centimeters. It features narrow, oval-shaped, gray-green leaves ending in pointed tips, giving it a distinctive appearance.

During its flowering season, the plant produces small, pale yellow umbel-shaped blossoms, typically numbering between 12 and 18 per cluster, making it a visually striking element in its natural habitat.

The herb thrives in hard, sandy soils and rocky areas, particularly near water accumulation sites. It is considered a rare desert plant capable of withstanding extreme drought and high salinity, allowing it to survive in some of the most challenging environmental conditions.
