Roads Authority Announces Readiness of Road Network to Serve Umrah Performers during Ramadan

Khost: The Roads General Authority has completed its preparations and operational readiness plans, along with mobilizing its technical and specialized personnel, to serve Umrah performers during the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH. The efforts aim to ensure safe, smooth access for Umrah performers and worshippers, enhance their overall experience, and contribute to achieving the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to reach 30 million Umrah performers annually by 2030.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the authority said it had begun early preparations for this year's Umrah season by surveying the road network in Makkah and Madinah regions, as well as the roads leading to the two holy mosques, and by ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards.

RGA noted that it has completed milling and resurfacing works covering more than 1,100 lane-kilometers, carried out and maintained some 58,900 linear meters of fencing, completed maintenance of 8,600 culverts, and installed and maintained over 59,500 linear meters of concrete and metal barriers, in addition to directional and warning signs. A dedicated team of 300 engineers and road and quality inspectors has also been deployed.

The authority stressed that these efforts will raise safety and readiness levels across the road network and support the objectives of the Roads Sector Program, which include achieving sixth place globally in the road quality index, reducing road fatalities to fewer than five cases per 100,000 people, and ensuring comprehensive road safety coverage in line with the International Road Assessment Program (iRAP) classification. These initiatives also aim to maintain advanced service levels for road network capacity, reinforcing the Kingdom's position as a global logistics hub.
