Pristina:Kosovo The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) has announced the inauguration of the Pristina-Mitrovica Highway, marking its first completed project in Kosovo and a significant milestone in the collaboration between Saudi Arabia and Kosovo.
According to Saudi Press Agency, SFD CEO Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad inaugurated the newly upgraded section of the highway with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. He also held discussions with Kosovo's Minister of Finance Hekuran Murati, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Dimal Basha, and Minister of Health Dr. Arben Vitia to explore further development cooperation efforts in Kosovo.
The project involved upgrading a 9.87 km section of the highway, which enhances the connection between Prishtina, Kosovo's capital, and Mitrovica. It is set to improve links with northern Kosovo and nearby municipalities, benefiting approximately 600,000 residents, especially those in Prishtina, Mitrovica, and Vushtrri.
This enhancement of regional connectivity is expected to reduce travel times and improve road safety, offering a more efficient route for both passengers and commercial traffic. The project aims to support local communities by facilitating the movement of people and goods, improving access to jobs and essential services, and boosting economic activities along this critical transport corridor.
The project was supported by a $16 million concessional loan from SFD, co-financed with the OPEC Fund for International Development. It underscores the importance of international cooperation and strong partnerships in promoting sustainable development and achieving long-term benefits.
