Taif: Taif, a UNESCO City of Literature, participated in the Cities of Literature Annual Meeting, hosted in Tartu from May 9 to 15, 2026. Taif was represented by Assistant Deputy for Investment at Taif Municipality Eng. Ahmed Jameel Haidar and representative of the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission Abdulaziz Al-Meshari.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the Cities of Literature Annual Meeting serves as an international platform bringing together Cities of Literature from around the world to exchange expertise, discuss joint initiatives, and showcase best practices in developing the literary sector and enhancing its presence in public spaces. The meeting program included internal sessions, best practices presentations, as well as field visits to key cultural institutions in Tartu, including the Estonian Literary Museum, the University of Tartu Library, and the Tartu Public Library, in addition to engagements with local cultural stakeholders.
During the meeting, the Taif delegation explored a range of international experiences in activating literature within urban contexts. The city also presented its 'Literary Partner' initiative as a model for effective local partnerships, enabling community entities to design and deliver literary programs and expanding access to diverse audiences.
This participation reflects Taif's ongoing efforts to strengthen its presence within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, build international cultural partnerships, and further develop the local literary sector while showcasing the city's literary identity on a global stage.
