Riyadh: The Transport General Authority (TGA) marked the International Day of the Seafarer, observed annually on June 25 and designated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), in recognition of the contributions made by Saudi seafarers in advancing and developing the maritime sector.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the authority underscored that this occasion reflects its deep appreciation for all professionals working in the maritime sector and their vital role in the ongoing growth of this dynamic industry, which continues to see progress each year.
It also revealed that the number of Saudi professionals in the maritime sector has surpassed 2,350 seafarers, with an 11% increase in Saudi nationals joining the industry over the past year.
The authority has launched over 60 certified training programs and courses across various specialties and levels delivered by accredited maritime education and training institutions in the Kingdom. It continues its efforts to elevate the Kingdom's global standing in the maritime industry and strengthen the position of its fleet, which currently holds the leading rank in the region.
