Bahraini Foreign Minister Meets with GCC Assistant Secretary-General for Legislative and Legal Affairs

Manama– Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani met today with Assistant Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for the Legislative and Legal Affairs Counselor Sultan bin Nasser Al-Suwaidi.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed aspects of legal and legislative cooperation between the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the GCC.

Under the Patronage of HRH the Crown Prince, Minister of National Guard to Inaugurate “Riyadh Global Medical Biotechnology Summit 2023” on 25 January

Riyadh– Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and on his behalf, Prince Abdullah bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Minister of the National Guard, will inaugurate “Riyadh Global Medical Biotechnology Summit 2023”, which will be organized by the Ministry of the National Guard, represented by Health Affairs, from 25 to 26 January, 2023.

The summit aims to consolidate the position of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a global gateway to medical biotechnology, through building global partnerships for medical biotechnology, and creating programs to develop the national pharmaceutical industry.

It aims at bringing together the key local and international players in biotech R&D and industry (RDI) and to formulate what will be the Riyadh Declaration for Biotechnology in order to make the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia a gateway to thriving biotechnology. The summit will bring together taught leaders in the field to push the boundaries of the existing thinking and practice and propose innovative models and initiatives that will impact the country, the region and the rest of the world with direct impact on health and economy.

Justice Ministry: 52,000 Virtual Judicial Sessions were Translated in 2022

Riyadh, January 08, 2023, SPA — The Ministry of Justice has revealed that around 52,000 judicial virtual sessions have been translated through the Unified Translation Center during 2022.

The ministry said the center enables non-Arabic speakers to follow up on their cases, through the center’s translation service in 47 languages, adding that the translation service can be obtained easily by logging into the Najiz platform (najiz.sa).

Minister of Islamic Affairs Meets with Mufti of Akkar

Riyadh, January 08, 2023, SPA — Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al Al-Sheikh received here today Mufti of Akkar in the Republic of Lebanon Dr. Zaid Bakkar Zakaria, and his accompanying delegation, which is currently visiting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

During the meeting, they discussed a number of issues of common interest, especially those related to serving Islam, spreading moderation, and confronting extremism.

Justice Minister announces the launch of a Law Practice Portal dedicated to lawyers

Riyadh– Saudi Justice Minister Walid al-Samaani has announced the launch of the Law Practice Portal during a speech at the Saudi Law Conference. He asserted the lawyer’s role as the ministry’s partner and the efforts to support lawyers through training and legal services.

“Lawyers have to keep track of the recent specialized legislations announced by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister,” al-Samaani said.

“The recently issued legislations, such as the Law of Evidence and the Personal Status Law, will be followed by the Law of Civil Transactions and the Penal Code,” he added, explaining that they will be accompanied by relevant guides, rules and annotations.

“There will also be a review to the implementing regulations for the Code of Law Practice,” he added, highlighting the importance of developing the law practice to support the business climate.

“The impact of licensing international law firms will contribute to the development of the practice and boost the business and investment environment in the Kingdom”, he explained.

He also noted that law practice qualifications in the future will also include skills related to accounting, finance and technology, in addition to the required legal studies.

Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce Accredits Formation of Saudi Japanese Business Council

Riyadh — Tareq bin Abdulhadi Al-Gahtani was elected President of the Saudi side of the Saudi Japanese Business Council for a new term of office at elections held today at the headquarters of the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce (CSC).

During the elections, each of Noaf bint Abdullah Alrakan and Mohamed bin Saad Al-Ajlan was chosen as vice president among optimistic expectations that the council would play a greater role in boosting trade exchanges between the two countries in the coming period.

In remarks on the occasion, Al-Gahtani said that the Saudi Japanese economic relations are enjoying the interest and care of the two countries’ leaderships and that those relations are considered an ideal global example in the field of fruitful cooperation and strategic partnership based on a firm constitutional and organizational framework, citing the Saudi Japanese Joint Committee, the Saudi Japanese Visions 2030 and the Saudi Japanese Business Council which works under the umbrella of the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce in addition to bilateral cooperation agreements and MoUs in a number of fields.

According to official reports, trade excahnge between Saudi Arabia and Japan amounted to more than SR600 billion in the last five years, while it reached nearly SR 125 billion in 2021, out of which SR 102 billion went to Saudi exports to Japan against SR23 billion as Saudi imports from Japan.

The trade exchange grew during 2020 -2021 at a rate of 49%, exports at 46.7% and imports at 4.4%, according to official figures.
